A government test which today revealed an NHS Trust in north London comes lowest recommended by its patients of any in the country has been criticised as being ?misleading?.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The NHS?s ?friends and family test? also found that Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in east London was the least popular among inpatients as it became clear decisions on the presentation and calculation methodology were made by ministers at the Department of Health, not NHS officials.

The Patients Association said the test would ?not address fundamental failures? in the health service.

The results - published for the first time today - are ?confusing to navigate?, the charity said. Nine in every 10 patients who attended the hospital with the ?worst? A&E department in the country would recommend that their friends and family should seek treatment at the hospital.

Indeed Chase Farm Hospital in north London was the only accident and emergency ward in England to receive a ?negative? score, but of the 516 of patients who were asked whether or not they would recommend the hospital, 295 said they were ?extremely likely? and 167 said they would be ?likely? to encourage their loved ones to seek treatment there - a total of 89.5 per cent.

Katherine Murphy, chief executive of the Patients Association, said: ?It is so complicated and confusing to navigate from a patients point of view. I?m not sure how it?s going to help.

?No one wants to be ill - or indeed in hospital - so asking people to recommend a hospital is not like asking someone to recommend a hotel.

?Asking that question is not going to address some of the failures that there are in the NHS. This could really be seen as a smoke screen to cover some of the more fundamental issues that need to be addressed - like the issue around poor care that so many elderly people experience on a daily basis.?

An NHS England spokeswoman explained why patients who said they were ?likely? but not ?extremely likely? to recommend a service were treated as returning neutral answers, the reason Chase Farm Hospital has a negative score despite nearly 90 per cent of patients saying they would recommend it to loved ones.

She said: ?Decisions on calculation and presentation methodology were made by DH (Department of Health) ministers, informed by views of the NHS England and SHAs (Strategic Health Authorities), plus research commissioned from Ipsos MORI on stakeholder reactions to different calculation and presentation options.?

Prime Minister David Cameron launched the initiative last year, saying that the simple test would help under-performing hospitals in England to ?raise their game?.

And Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt said: ?Today marks an historic moment in the NHS. This simple survey will give us the information we need to celebrate the best in our NHS and root out poor care.

?By making these ratings public we?re giving patients the power to choose the best place for their care - and driving other hospitals to raise their game.?

The 7 Closing Mistakes Presenters Make - InfluenceOlogy

10X Business Letter

Dear Business Builder,

Today we continue with part 3 of our video series entitled, "The 7 Closing Mistakes Presenters Make Part".

Loving Living Giving Large,

Jeff Paro
Editor ? The 10X Business Letter

In our first video, we introduced the first mistake:

1.) Most presenters develop their content without thinking FIRST about their offer.

And in our second video, we introduced the second mistake:

2.) Most presenters feel uncomfortable talking about their offer at the end of the presentation.

In this video we will introduce to you mistake number # 3 which is very simple, yet super important?it is this one:

3.) Most presents run out of time during their close

And when that happens, they conversions decreases dramatically because now they rush during the close, they speak way too fast and they don?t allow enough time for the audience to make a decision.

I remember one time when I was speaking at a car dealership and got super excited about a couple of stories, and I ended up speaking more than I should. I went way too long. All I sudden I heard a voice in the speaker system ?the dealership is about to open, salespeople on the floor?, so the audience (car salesman) looked at me and said ?thank you Roberto? and they stood up and left the room! Not fun at all!

So what can you do so you never commit this mistake like I did?

First, practice your close and time it. Your close should be ingrained in your body. You should know exactly how long it is, for example: 3 minutes and 30 seconds, 4 minutes, 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Time it!

Second, you must track your time during your presentation, or have someone in the audience helping you track your time. Otherwise you may speak way long and commit this mistake

And third, have some transitional phrases ready to go, so in the event you went too long, or maybe the meeting organizer wants to cut you short, you can transition to the close immediately, anytime you want.

Here is a transitions phrase that you can use anytime during your presentation

Example: ?And that leads us to the most important part of the presentation: how we can really help you implement this information?

When you follow these 3 simple ideas, you will never run out of time during your close.

If you believe that presenting and speaking can advance your business, help you get more clients, and position yourself as the expert in your filed, feel free to visit out event page as www.infuencingfromthefront.com

And I will see you in our next video, video number 4.

Roberto

Reuters Twitter Account Hacked

A Reuters news service Twitter account appeared to have been hacked Monday, as the news organization suddenly began tweeting messages supportive of the Syrian president.

According to screenshots from the Atlantic Wire, a Thomson Reuters corporate Twitter account @thomsonreuters began posting pro-president Bashar Al-Assad images Monday evening, followed by a tweet reading, "Always via Syrian Electronic Army (@Official_SEA12) #Syria #SyrianElectronicArmy pic.twitter.com/67plhvWgDD."

A Thomson Reuters spokesman told The Wall Street Journal's Digits blog Monday night in an email: ?Earlier today @thomsonreuters was hacked. In this time, unauthorized individuals have posted fabricated tweets of which Thomson Reuters is not the source. The account has been suspended and is currently under investigation.?

In April, the SEA, a group described as "A collective of pro-Assad hackers and online activists," hacked an Associated Press Twitter account, leading to a drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The SEA also has hacked other news organizations including NPR, BBC and Al Jazeera.

HuffPost's Gerry Smith wrote at the time that the AP attack "showed how hackers are using so-called 'phishing' techniques to compromise Twitter accounts belonging to some of the most respected news agencies in the world, renewing questions about the social network's security measures."

Energy-efficiency, reuse of building space and material help Hoosac Valley earn LEED Gold

Hoosac Valley Middle and High School was recently awarded LEED Gold status, which means more than $800,000 for the school?s two towns. (Jennifer Huberdeau/North Adams Transcript)

Monday July 29, 2013

CHESHIRE - The energy-efficient design of the renovation of Hoosac Valley Middle and High School has garnered an LEED Gold certification -- and more than $800,000 for both Adams and Cheshire.

The school has been honored by the U.S. Green Building Council with its Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification - the second highest certification a building can achieve.

The project also won top honors for Margo Jones Architects and Tessier Associates, which received the 2012 Honor Award at the Western Massachusetts AIA Annual Design Awards Competition in December. The $40.6 million project was celebrated by the competition's judges for its "skillful re-use of existing materials, daylighting improvements and thoughtful detailing of interior spaces."

"When we began the project we were shooting for LEED Silver," said Brian Sutton, LEED AP and president of eCaerus Sustainable Solutions of Great Barrington, which served as the project's LEED consultant. "During the construction, we all kind of huddled on the side and decided to go that extra mile. Our company spent extra hours to make sure the project would reach the gold level."

To achieve LEED Gold certification, the project had to earn 60 credits, which are awarded for meeting certain sustainability and energy-efficiency benchmarks.

"So much time was spent on that in early design phase," he said. "We reused over 75 percent of the existing structure [built in 1971]. It's a great use of an existing building, as opposed to knocking it down and starting over."

One of the benefits of achieving LEED Gold certification, he said, is that the state School Building Authority (MSBA) reimburses 2 percent of total project costs for the achievement. For the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District, that totals $880,000, which will be split between the towns of Adams and Cheshire.

Some of the project's elements that helped achieve the certification include the 495 kWh photo voltaic solar array at the school, reduced energy consumption, regionally-sourced building materials, high-efficiency replacement windows and improved storm water management.

"What people can really appreciate about the site is that there is no light pollution -- it's a good thing for the neighbors and for the environment," Sutton said. "We reused the pool as a place to capture the rain water from the fields and are using it to flush the toilets. It's an excellent reuse of water and its reducing the impact on the fields and streams around the school."

He said the building is now performing at 40 percent less than code on energy consumption due to upgrades.

"The solar voltaic system is really impressive," Sutton added. "You can go online and see how much energy has been produced and the equivalent energy savings -- the comparative reduction in carbon dioxide emissions or the equivalent number of gallons of gas or smartphone changes."

According to the solar array's website, (http://www.solrenview.com/SolrenView/mainFr.php?siteId=1713), the array has produced 365 MWh since going online in December -- the equivalent of 32,237 gallons of gasoline or 67,54,170 smartphones being charged.

The building project team included eCaerus Sustainable Solutions, Margo Jones Architects, Tessier Associates, Hesnor Engineering Associates, Guntlow & Associates and Gilbane Inc.

Rivals clash over battle for presidency of the International Cycling Union

Nominations for September?s elections closed on June 29, with Cookson and McQuaid announced as the only candidates. However, McQuaid?s nomination by Swiss Cycling remains the subject of a formal challenge after he failed to secure the backing of his home federation, Cycling Ireland.

And in what appears a shameful disregard for the principles of democracy, the letter announced the rule would be enacted retrospectively, allowing any two federations to put forward candidates before a new deadline of August 30, less than a month before the election.

Those running Cookson?s campaign could barely conceal their disgust.

A spokesman said: ?This letter is an embarrassment to cycling and a naked attempt to change the rules midway through the election. We must do better than this if we are to restore confidence in the governance of cycling.?

Cookson was nominated by British Cycling, while McQuaid has now received nominations from the Thai Cycling Association and its Moroccan equivalent, in addition to Swiss Cycling.

The latter federation has been forced to commence arbitration proceedings over its decision to back McQuaid in defiance of a UCI rule that appears to instruct individual federations to take heed of decisions made by their counterparts in other territories.

A three-strong panel is expected to rule whether the nomination of McQuaid was valid in the coming weeks.

Hubschmid?s letter claimed the Malaysian Federation and ACC submitted their proposal to the UCI with an aim to ?reinforce the independence of future UCI Presidents by ensuring they are able to carry out the role based on serving the global interests of cycling, independently from those of any single nominating national federation?.

(AP) ? In dark sunglasses and a uniform studded with medals, Egypt's top general is everywhere, looking down from posters and banners proclaiming him "lion of the nation." Adoring songs vow "We are behind you."

Barely a month after he removed the elected president, Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi is riding a wave of adulation, drawing comparisons between him and modern Egypt's first charismatic strongman, former President Gamal Abdel-Nasser. State media and pro-military TV channels and newspapers have done everything they can to fuel the fervor.

But some warn that the personality cult could pave the way to new authoritarianism after a coup that the army and its supporters insist was aimed at promoting democracy.

"I worry about el-Sissi and the possible arrogance of the victor. And I fear him if he decides that the army is stronger than any future president that he will control like a puppet," wrote Mohammed Fathy, a columnist in the newspaper Al-Watan. "The admiration for him has gone beyond normal levels and is now more like deifying him."

The hype has swelled to the point that some are convinced el-Sissi will take off his uniform and run for president in elections due to take place early next year. A military spokesman denied el-Sissi has any intention to do so. That has done nothing to end the speculation by those for and against the idea.

"Bottom line, el-Sissi will be president because he has no choice but to be. People have already started treating him as such and because he is de facto ruler," Fathy wrote in a column on Monday, adding that media are depicting the general as "Nasser 2013."

The raving over el-Sissi is rooted in the satisfaction many Egyptians took from his July 3 coup removing President Mohammed Morsi. It came after four days of massive protests by millions nationwide demanding the president step down, accusing him of failing to manage the country and handing power over to his Islamist allies.

The nationalist fervor and resentment of the Islamists has so far all but drowned out arguments by Muslim Brotherhood and Morsi's other supporters that the coup against Egypt's first freely elected president has wrecked democracy. Two large-scale killings of dozens of pro-Morsi protesters in clashes the past three weeks have won them little sympathy amid a public attitude ? again fueled by the military, officials and many media outlets ? that the protesters are violent extremists.

But the lavish celebration of el-Sissi also speaks of a nation looking for a leader it can rally behind. It underscores a close bond between the Egyptian public and the armed forces. As a mostly conscript army, there is hardly an Egyptian family that hasn't sent a son to the military, which fought four wars with Israel ? the most recent in 1973.

That translates into a trust of the army's intentions among many.

"The army will not stay forever, just long enough to restore order and security in the country," said Ezzat Fahim, a 38-year-old father of two. He carried an el-Sissi poster in Cairo's Tahrir Square during massive nationwide rallies on Friday that the general himself called for as a show of support for the military to act against "terrorism."

The degree of trust has survived among much of the public despite the fact that the generals were the power behind the scenes during six decades of authoritarian rule. Hosni Mubarak, ousted in the 2011 uprising after 29 years in power, was a career air force officer.

The military ruled directly for nearly 17 months after Mubarak's fall until Morsi was inaugurated ? a period that bruised the generals' image, with anti-military protests in the streets and accusations of abuses by troops. Some believe that after that experience, el-Sissi will be wary of seeming to hold too much power.

"So far, I am not worried of him seizing power," said Mohammed Hashem, a leftist book publisher and veteran pro-democracy campaigner. "I see no signs that he is tempted to do so. If he does, I will be out on the streets again shouting 'down, down with military rule'."

But the el-Sissi-fest is powerful, seemingly rooted in part in a desire for a charismatic nationalist figure.

Morsi, the country's first president not to come from the military, was unable to create that image, with his Islamist agenda appealing only few outside his base. Mubarak sorely lacked charisma and a human touch and was seen as building up a regime based on cronyism and corruption and the power of oppressive police agencies.

The yearning could explain the rampant comparisons to Nasser.

Nasser, a military officer, was the mastermind of a 1952 coup that toppled the monarchy. As president, Nasser was lionized for nationalizing the Suez Canal in 1956, negotiating the withdrawal of occupying British forces, dismantling the feudal agricultural system and spreading free education. When he died in 1970, millions participated in the funeral.

Since his death, many acknowledge his faults: His rule was oppressive against both secular and Islamist dissidents, and the state-run system he created decayed into corruption. But there is also nostalgia for what was seen as good in him.

That worries some.

"The notion of someone becoming the savior and hero of a nation as big and ancient as Egypt is a big mistake," prominent rights campaigner Gamal Eid warned.

El-Sissi, he said, "knows fully well that people are inclined to trust those who are sincere even if they don't approve of what they do."

The sort of enthusiasm for the 58-year-old el-Sissi has not been seen since Nasser's heyday in the 1950s and 1960s.

In the huge crowds that came out for Friday's rally, many waved posters juxtaposing pictures of el-Sissi and Nasser. "Buy the picture of el-Zaeem," shouted one woman selling el-Sissi posters, using the Arabic word for "leader" exclusively associated in Egypt with Nasser.

Protesters wore around their necks small portraits of el-Sissi next to a lion symbolizing strength. One poster had him smiling and in his hallmark dark sunglasses with the words: "El-Sissi, the love of the people."

Protesters drew a giant portrait of el-Sissi with green laser beams on the side of a high-rise hotel overlooking Tahrir.

Ghada Shereef, in an op-ed piece Thursday in the independent Al-Masry Al-Youm, gushed that if el-Sissi gave the word, women would line up to marry him or just be his concubines. "That is a man who is adored by Egyptians," she wrote in the article, titled "El-Sissi, just wink to get what you want."

Previously the head of military intelligence, el-Sissi was little known outside the army when Morsi appointed him defense minister and head of the armed forces last August. Morsi's aides have said they saw him as a pious Muslim who had shown signs of sympathy with their Islamist agenda.

As army chief, however, he's shown no political agenda in any direction.

But he has cultivated a unique charisma for a military man. Unlike the usual stern-faced generals, el-Sissi has shown an emotional side, a quality many of his fans cite as proof of his compassion.

On Sunday, he sat at a police graduation ceremony fighting back tears as the commander of the police academy waxed lyrical on his patriotism. The army's propaganda machine has also been marketing him as a youthful and energetic leader. Army videos show el-Sissi jogging in camouflage fatigues along with other commanders, or warmly chatting with soldiers during war games.

It's a stark contrast to his near-mummified predecessor, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, the Mubarak-era defense minister who ruled Egypt for nearly 17 months until Morsi was inaugurated and soon after removed him.

El-Sissi has invited celebrities to army-sponsored functions. At a live concert in April, he held the microphone like a pop singer to address the audience.

"I want to say something to you: Don't ever worry about Egypt," he said. "Egyptians can change the whole world when they want." The singers and dancers who had just finished their show broke into chants of "the army and the people are one hand."
